Adam Scher is a British Passport holding South African who has excelled, both at home and abroad, in recent years.
A talented batting all-rounder, Scher has been instrumental towards his club side's success since taking over the reins in recent years. Playing for Green Point Cricket Club, alongside the likes of Zak Elkin (Western Province), and Wesley Barresi (Netherlands), he took GPCC from the brink of relegation (2018/19), to skipper his side to the 1st Division A title (2019/20), and subsequent promotion to the WPCA Premier League.
His exploits for GPCC in 2019/20 were rewarded with not only promotion, but individual awards including 1st XI "Bowler", and "All-Rounder" of the season. Alongside the title and a bagful of wickets, Scher's highlights included a brilliant 109 off just 69 balls against Kraaifontein Cricket Club.
Abroad, Scher has been in sensational form in recent seasons for Odiham and Greywell (2019, 2021). He joined the Hampshire Cricket League club following previous stints with Newquay (2016), and Old Hamptonians (2018 - 540 runs at 38.57 and 22 wickets at 19.14). During his past two seasons in Hampshire, he clocked up 6 centuries amongst 1,495 runs at 62.29 alongside 43 wickets at 17.37.
Last summer, the former Western Province Under-19 all-rounder, was at his very best, both on and off the field. Not only did he guide his 1st XI to promotion, hitting 706 runs at 78.44, but his coaching and development work off the field helped all four of Odiham's sides to promotion. Now that is some season.
Scher returned to Cape Town where he was once again the key man for Green Point in Cape Town's top-flight Premier League, finishing second to Zac Elkin as the League's leading run-getter and amongst the wickets to boot. He is currently back in the UK playing in the South Staffordshire League for Aldridge, Scher continues to shine. Check out his performances below.
The South African is now eager to secure yet another UK gig for the 2023 season. Alongside his own cricket, he is keen to integrate heavily within a coaching capacity for whatever club he joins next summer. A player that comes highly recommended, not just as a player, but coach, Scher is quite simply an outstanding Player/Coach option.
