Chathuranga Kumara is a genuine pace bowling all-rounder playing top-tier domestic cricket in Sri Lanka.
He represents Police Sports Club, alongside former Test star Chamara Silva. He joined Police in 2021/12 following successful stints with rival clubs Colts (2011/12-12/13), Colombo (2013/14-17/18), and Chilaw (2018/19-19/20). To date, during his decade on the domestic circuit, Kumara has scored over 2,000 runs and taken 100 plus wickets.
A schoolboy prodigy, the all-rounder starred for St Joseph’s College, and was a key member of the Sri Lankan Under-19 (2011) and Under-23 (2013) sides.
He broke into professional cricket and has enjoyed an illustrious career, boasting batting and bowling averages in the mid-20s, respectively.
The talented all-rounder also excelled during his maiden season abroad, when playing club cricket for Balderton in the South Notts Cricket League in 2019. In 17 matches, Kumara struck a century (123*) and 3 fifties amongst 515 runs at 73.57, alongside 27 wickets at 21.63 with two 5-wicket hauls.
Chathuranga was then picked up last summer by Ashby Hastings, where he enjoyed further success, particularly with the ball, taking 49 wickets at 10.51 in the Leicestershire and Rutland League (Div 1).
Given his success, home and abroad, the proven Sri Lankan pro is seeking a UK return in 2023 for what will be his third league stint.
