A left-hand opening batsman and dynamic wicket-keeper, he has represented Western Province through the age-groups, dominating the run charts. At Coke Week he struck 255 runs at 64, then belted Cobras to the Cubs title with 303 runs at 75.75. His exploits culminated with South African Under-19 selection, where he skippered the side.

At schoolboy level, it's a similar trend. He broke all sorts of records for SACS High School. He played over 100 games, skippered the 1st XI for 2 years, and averaged 65 in his final 3 seasons.

Smith has now left school and has made a successful transition into senior club cricket. Playing for Claremont in the WPCA top tier club competition, he struck 389 runs at 64.83 in 2019/20, culminating with Western Province selection for the T20 Blitz, and CSA Provincial Competitions this summer.

After the current 2021/22 season, Smith is seeking an opportunity to ply his trade abroad for the 2022 season.
