A left-hand opening batsman and dynamic wicket-keeper, Smith represented Western Province through the age groups, dominating the run charts.
At Coke Week he struck 255 runs at 64, then belted Cobras to the Cubs title with 303 runs at 75.75. His exploits culminated with South African Under-19 selection, where he skippered the side.
At schoolboy level, Smith broke all sorts of records for SACS High School. He played over 100 games, skippered the 1st XI for 2 years, and averaged 65 in his final 3 seasons.
Smith made a successful transition into senior club cricket for Claremont (WPCA), striking 389 runs at 64.83 in 2019/20. This culminated with Western Province selection for the T20 Blitz, and CSA Provincial Competitions.
Post-COVID, Smith broke into the Western Provincial side for the CSA 4-Day Series (Division 1). He excelled.
