David Grant is an exceptional seam bowling prospect playing State (South Australia), and BBL (Brisbane Heat) cricket. At present, Grant has played 24 domestic games dating back to his one-day debut in August 2016.
A former Australian U19 star, Grant has long been regarded as a player for the future. Unfortunately, a foot stress fracture in March 2018 stunted his progression, but such was his promise that he was upgraded from his rookie contract to a full Redbacks contract in 2019/20.
Grant is a player who has earned high praise in recent years. SACA High-Performance Manager Tim Nielsen likened him to domestic legend Chadd Sayers, but given time, he would become faster and eventually resemble Test quick Josh Hazlewood.
He has clearly been earmarked as someone with international potential. He was a member of the National Performance Squad in 2016 and was selected to play for the Cricket Australia XI the following year.
Grant has been involved with the Strikers BBL squad and most recently has played for the Brisbane Heat (Jan 2022).
Alongside his domestic commitments, Grant has been a long-standing and influential member of Kensington District Cricket Club in the SACA Premier League. In his club career, spanning over a decade, he has taken 266 wickets at 19.83 and has 1,269 runs at 16.92 with bat-in-hand.
An exciting prospect, Grant headed to the UK in 2022, following in the footsteps of Marnus Labuschagne to play for Sandwich Town. He excelled across all cricket, with both bat (723 runs at 31.43) and particularly ball (53 wickets at 18.11).
The South Australian is set to give the body a rest throughout the UK 2023 season, but may consider a return the following year.
