Delano Potgieter is a sensational prospect playing for North West Dragons in South African domestic cricket. A superstar in the making, Potgieter is a genuine all-rounder who has impressed with bat and ball, across all formats, in recent seasons.

His exploits for various sides, including Gauteng (2015/16-18/19), Central Gauteng (2019/20), and Lions (2018/19-20/21), culminated with South Africa Emerging Players selection recently (April 2021).

His journey, though, began with Gauteng, representing the province through the age groups (U15s-U19s). He starred for the University of Johannesburg and was a key performer for the University Sport South Africa side (2016-19).

The all-rounder was the leading run-scorer for Gauteng in the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, then topped the wicket charts in the 2018/19 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge.

His success culminated with a Franchise call-up for the Lions in January 2019, and it’s fair to say, he impressed on debut hitting a century (145 from 176 balls) and taking the first 4 wickets to fall (Eddie Moore, Matthew Breetzke), Yaseen Vallie, and Lesiba Ngoepe) en-route to figures of 4-81 against the Warriors). He shared a stand of 301 with Bjorn Fortuin to break a 73-year-old record for the highest 7th wicket partnership in South African history.

His exploits would ensure selection for the Jozi Stars in the 2019 Mzansi Super League later that year.

Potgieter has continued to excel since and is now approaching 100 domestic matches across the three formats, where he has taken neigh on 130 wickets and is approaching 3,000 runs. With the bat, he is averaging early to mid-30s in each format, and 22.24 (FC), 29.20 (List A), and 13.11 (T20) with the ball.

The all-rounder is one of South Africa’s star domestic performers who is now looking to showcase his talent in UK league cricket next summer. He will be arguably the most sought-after acquisition given his skill set and exploits in domestic cricket to date.
