Devind Pathmanathan is a highly decorated cricketer who currently plays professional cricket in Sri Lanka for Nugegoda Sports Welfare Club.
A schoolboy prodigy, Pathmanathan captained the prestigious Royal College Colombo throughout the age groups and guided the 1st XI to “Battle of the Blues” (3-Day, and 50-over) victories in 2013. His exploits culminated with Sri Lankan Under-19 squad (30 member) selection for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2014.
The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder would then make a successful transition into senior men’s cricket, earning List A and first-class debuts for Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club during the 2014/15 season.
Owing to his academic studies, game time was limited for the next few years, as he would play for Colombo’s Business Management School (BMS) in University cricket. Their national success resulted in successive Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals. BMS would reach the quarter-finals in 2015, then go on to win the tournament in 2016, beating the star-studded University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, having previously knocked out the University of Central Punjab, and Pretorius University en-route to the final.
Pathmanathan would then head to England on an Old Royalist scholarship in 2017. He would play for the club in the Surrey Cricket League (Premier Division) where he would excel, taking 27 wickets at 9.19.
Since his return to Sri Lanka, the left-arm spinner has represented Tamil Union, Burgher Recreation, and Kalutara Town Club, before moving to current club Nugegoda last summer.
A player that comes highly recommended by numerous clients, Pathmanathan has yet to reach his full potential in first-class cricket but has demonstrated his ability with both bat (highest FC score of 63*) and ball.
He is now looking for another UK season where he'll be looking to impress.
