Gihan Niroshan is quite the batting prospect playing for Sri Lanka Army Sports Club.
Playing alongside the likes of national players including Asela Gunaratne, and Seekkuge Prasanna, the youngster has impressed this season.
In his 7 first-class matches in 2022, the middle-order batter racked up 259 runs at 32.37 including his maiden century (113* v Badureliya) and a further fifty (50* v Negombo).
Niroshan has enjoyed something of a breakthrough season in 2022 having previously made his debut for the Army across all formats during the 2019/20 season. After a brief stint with Ragama during the 2020/21 COVID season, he returned with a bang in 2022.
The former St Aloysius’ College skipper has also evidenced his bowling ability by bagging wickets in both red and white ball cricket this year. Had it not been for the strength and depth of SL Army’s spin bowling attack, Niroshan would have bowled significantly more.
He regards himself as a genuine all-rounder, in every sense of the word. A dynamic fielder to boot, he is arguably Army’s best, and actually won the ”fielder of the tournament” during the 2021 Army Commanders League tournament.
Niroshan is quite the talent and is now eager to join his many teammates with a UK stint in 2023.
