Jessica Simmons is a talented opening bowler playing for the Canterbury Magicians in New Zealand Women’s domestic cricket.
Despite her tender age she has experience beyond her years with 129 domestic matches for the Magicians under her belt since her debut during the 2016/17 season.
Courtesy of her exploits, she has enjoyed higher honours with New Zealand Development inclusion (2019/20), along with Canterbury State contracts in 2020/21, 2021/22, and 2023/24.
Simmons is highly regarded in New Zealand cricket. A strong opening bowler, who swings the ball at a brisk pace. She has over 80 wickets for the Magicians with best performances of 4-31, and 2-14, in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield (HBJ), and T20 Super Smash competitions, respectively. She is also a capable, and hard-hitting, batter from the lower order albeit she aspires to improve this area in a view to batting higher in the order in future.
The Magicians star has high hopes to progress in the game, and as part of her development is to play cricket abroad in 2025. A stand-out kiwi performer, Simmons is not just a top-class player but a keen coach. Whilst unqualified, she has plenty of experience with her junior club (Old Boys Collegians) and junior teams through Christchurch Metro Cricket.
