Juma Gul is a serious batting prospect for Afghanistan cricket. A former Under-19 star, he broke into domestic cricket in his teens during the 2017/18 season. He has since played 30-plus matches in first-class and T20 cricket, respectively.
In 18 first-class matches, he has scored 840 runs at 30 with a century (127) and 5 fifties. Whilst his hundred is his current career-best, arguably his career highlight was his 84 in the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament final in December 2021. Unfortunately, his Amo Region side went down to Band-e-Amir Region, but Gul top scored in the final against the formidable Band bowling attack.
Clearly, Gul is quite the batting talent, but he is regarded as a genuine all-rounder in domestic circles. However, due to the strength and depth of spinners in Afghanistan bowling opportunities have been limited for Gul, who bowls very handy off-spin.
The all-rounder, unfortunately, suffered a shoulder injury earlier this year which hampered his first-class involvement in 2022, but he has now recovered and is eager to spend a season plying his trade in UK league cricket.
A high-quality talent and someone who comes recommended by several CricX stars in Afghanistan.
