Kapil Dave is a talented British mystery spinner who burst onto the ECB Premier League circuit last summer and impressed.
Playing for Reed, his spin bagged 24 wickets at 20.71, all with an economy of 4.55, in the Hertfordshire League. His tally saw him finish just outside the top 10 wicket-takers, in a Premier Division flooded with current and former professional and Minor County players.
By way of context, fellow tweakers, Mohammad Rizvi (Oxford MCCU), and legendary Sri Lankan Pro, Chanaka Ruwansiri, ended with similar wicket tallies and bowling averages.
Dave shot to prominence towards the back end of the season by bowling his side to victory against a powerhouse Radlett side, taking figures of 5-30. He was in the middle of a purple patch, taking 19 of his 24 wickets in his final 8 matches, with an average of 17.58.
Dave is one of these “new age” spinners who spin the ball both ways with a minimal change of action. With an action akin to Sunil Narine, Dave has been coached by former KKR spin bowling coach, Carl Crowe, and is someone with the potential to progress in the game. Last summer, he was named the "best bowler" in the ECB T20 City Cup tournament.
Unfortunately, Reed suffered relegation, therefore Dave is looking to secure another ECB Premier League club for the 2022 season. He hopes to impress and secure Minor County / County 2nd XI opportunities next summer. Whilst he is based in Leicester, he is open to traveling for the right opportunity to showcase his undoubted talent.
