Kapil Dave is a talented British mystery spinner who burst onto the ECB Premier League circuit in 2021 and hasn't looked back.
In 2021, playing for Reed in the Hertfordshire League, his spin bagged 24 wickets at 20.71, all with an economy of 4.55. His tally saw him finish just outside the top 10 wicket-takers, in a Premier Division flooded with current and former professional and Minor County players.
By way of context, fellow tweakers, Mohammad Rizvi (Oxford MCCU), and legendary Sri Lankan Pro, Chanaka Ruwansiri, ended with similar wicket tallies and bowling averages.
Dave shot to prominence towards the back end of the 2021 season by bowling his side to victory against a powerhouse Radlett side, taking figures of 5-30. He was in the middle of a purple patch, taking 19 of his 24 wickets in his final 8 matches, with an average of 17.58.
Last summer, Dave moved to rival Hertfordshire side Welwyn Garden City where he enjoyed further success taking 26 wickets at 29.92. Again, he finished narrowly outside the top 10 wicket-takers in the Premier Division but did top the club's 1st XI charts. His highlight was an impressive 6-33 (18) against Hoddesdon - the best figures in the Premier League last summer.
Dave is one of these “new age” spinners who spin the ball both ways with a minimal change of action. With an action akin to Sunil Narine, Dave has been coached by former KKR spin bowling coach, Carl Crowe, and is someone with the potential to progress in the game.
For 2023, Dave is seeking a new club where he can lead the bowling attack and push for higher honours. A proven ECB Premier performer, and someone that is locked in for wickets next summer.
