Loryn Phiri is a talented all-rounder playing for the Lady Chevrons, Zimbabwe’s National Women’s team.

She made her international debut against Ireland aged 18 and has since become a key figure for the Chevrons playing 4 “official” ODI’s, and 18 T20I’s, alongside many additional matches for her country.

An exceptional off-spinner who bats in the middle order, in T20 international cricket she boasts 19 wickets with the sensational average of 8.57, including best figures of 5-6.

The majority of these wickets were taken during the most recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Region qualifiers (Sept 2021), bagging a chart-topping 16 wickets all with a sensational average of 3.87 (yes, that’s correct).

She was named bowler of the tournament, and rightly so, given she captured a wicket every 6.93 balls, all with an economy rate of 3.35 as Zimbabwe went on to beat Namibia in the final.

Whilst acknowledged as one of, if not Zimbabwe’s best spinner, Phiri is also a talented batter in the middle-order. She has scored plenty of runs in domestic cricket for the Mountaineers, with a highest score of 47*, and a best innings of 43 scored from the opening slot in their losing Fifty50 Challenge Final against the Rhinos (Dec 2020).

Phiri is already to be a force to be reckoned with at international level with the ball but aspires to replicate this with the bat in future. She has high hopes of playing in the World Cup and Franchise cricket around the world moving forward.

For now, though, she’d like to join her Chevron team-mates, Modester Mupachikwa (Spencer), and Josephine Nkomo (South Northumberland) in UK club cricket this summer.
