Lwandiswa Zuma is an exciting quick bowler playing for the North West Dragons in South African domestic cricket.

He has represented numerous sides over the years, including Franchise teams including the Knights (2017/17), and Dolphins (2018/19-19/20), before joining the Dragons following the domestic restructure last summer.

A genuine quick, Zuma has taken well over 100 wickets across the three formats since his first-class debut during the 2013/14 season. He has enjoyed particular success in the first-class, and List A formats, where he has 86 wickets at 31.04, and 34 wickets at 25.64, at the point of writing.

Zuma has been a domestic stand-out in recent years – 33 wickets at 21 in 2016/17, and 25 wickets at 21.31 in 2018/19 has culminated with South Africa National Academy, and Emerging Player’s inclusion, following his selection for the SA Under-19s back in 2014.

Over the years, Zuma has been an integral member of several championship-winning sides, including the CSA Franchise Series with the Knights, the CSA 3-Day Championship with Free State, and two Momentum Cup victories with the Dolphins.

Zuma comes recommended not only as a fine quick but one of the “good guys”. This can be evidenced by the comments in his personal statement below:

“I’m a cricketer who wears his heart on his sleeve every time I step over the boundary. An absolute professional who is always looking to do what I can for the benefit of the team. Having been around the block for about 5 years now, I have some knowledge about the game and I’m never hesitant to share, especially with younger players. I’m very much a team player and always prepared to sacrifice my own preferences for the benefit of the team. I have very high standards and always want to take a guy or two with me. I always want to see the best in my teammates and I’m willing to help or assist wherever necessary to contribute to my teammate’s success. Off the field, I enjoy spending time with teammates to get to know them on a personal level”.

The hugely talented quick played his maiden UK season last summer. Playing for Gomersal in the Bradford Cricket League, he perhaps underwhelmed with the ball (16 wickets at 39.56) but produced some useful (and quick) innings with the bat (204 runs at 34) before pre-season commitments prompted an early departure.

Zuma enjoyed his first stint and is eager to return for another crack in 2023.
