Muhammad Shehzad is an exciting prospect who showcased his all-round ability in some fashion recently.

Playing for Pakistan at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies (Jan/Feb 2022), Shehzad hit headlines courtesy of figures of 5-7 against Papua New Guinea, alongside notable scores of 43 (v Afghanistan), 36 (v Bangladesh), and 73 (v Sri Lanka) from the top-order.

Touted as a future international all-rounder, much in the mold of a young Azhar Mahmoud, and Abdul Razzaq, Shehzad also drew comparisons to the great Younis Khan by Graeme Swann who was commenting in the Caribbean.

A gifted batter, who bowls 130kph plus, Shehzad has long been regarded as a player of international promise. The youngster, who has only recently turned 18, moved to Lahore at the age of 9 to pursue his passion for cricket. He only started playing hard-ball cricket shortly thereafter, and in 2018 was playing against Australia for the Pakistan Under-16s. His exploits caught the eye of Under-19 head coach Ijaz Ahmed, and he subsequently earned World Cup selection.

Following his success in the Caribbean, Shehzad returned home to earn a PSL call-up, replacing James Faulkner for Quetta Gladiators. Whilst he has yet to feature it’s a clear indication of his potential.

The talented youngster looks set for the big stage in future but for now, is keen to secure a UK club opportunity for the upcoming 2022 season.
