Nomvelo Sibanda is a Zimbabwean Women’s (Lady Chevrons) star who has excelled since breaking into the national side during the 2018/19 season.
Affectionately known as “Leftie”, courtesy of her left-arm pace, Sibanda has played 21 matches for the Chevrons – 18 in T20I cricket where she has bagged 21 wickets at 13.28.
Her most recent outing for the Chevrons came during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup African Region Qualifiers, where unsurprisingly she excelled. In the final against Namibia, she picked up figures of 2-7 including 2 of the top 3 batters, to help Zimbabwe take the title.
With the bat, she is a capable middle-lower order batter who has helped guide the Chevrons home by 1-wicket twice. In fact, on her international debut she was involved in the second-highest 9th wicket partnership (69 runs) helping her side home against the touring Irish ladies.
Sibanda, who also skippers her provincial side, the Tuskers, is quite the prospect for Zimbabwean cricket who is now eager to experience opportunities abroad. Her initial focus is joining her many Chevron teammates in the UK during the 2023 season. A player, and person, that comes highly recommended for any club this summer.
