Poonish Mehta is a talented and genuine all-rounder who forced his way back into the Haryana for their 2017/18 Ranji Trophy campaign. He excelled on his return, striking a highest score of 70* amongst 129 runs at 21.50 alongside 12 wickets at 12.91 with a best bowling of 4.21. Unfortunately, though, despite his success, he hasn't featured at domestic level since December 2018 but is pressing hard for a return.
A destructive right-handed middle-order batter and sharp seamer, Mehta made his first-class debut for Haryana in November 2016, having previously made his List A (December 2015) and T20 (January 2016) debuts the previous season. He struck 57 on his List A debut against Gujarat but failed to cement his spot. A strong CK Nayudu Trophy campaign in October 2016, which included a century and several notable wicket hauls, culminated with his Ranji debut the following month. He only played a solitary match, followed by two further matches, against Rajasthan and Kerala respectively in November 2017.
The talented all-rounder is eager to return to the domestic fold, before heading to Northern shores once more, after successful Irish stints in 2018 and 2019.
In his opening stint for Merrion, he topped the Leinster League wicket charts (40 wickets at 13.35) alongside 534 runs at 41.08. His exploits helped his side to the Allan Murray and Irish Cup finals and LCU league title. In 2019, he moved to Phoenix and excelled, once again, with 603 runs at 46.38 and 31 wickets at 14.39.
The all-rounder represents a high-class, proven performer, who will be sought after for the 2022 season.
