Ramesh Mendis is one of Sri Lanka’s hottest prospects, who has represented Sri Lankan Under-19s, Sri Lanka Emerging Players and has spent the past five seasons playing domestic cricket for Sinhalese Sports Club (2015/16-16/17), Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club (2017/18), and Moors Sports Club (2018/19-19/20), respectively.

A diminutive, yet explosive top-order batsman, enjoyed a sensational 2017/18 season. In Sri Lanka's top flight (Tier A) first-class competition, Mendis struck two centuries amongst 591 runs at 53.72 and took 15 wickets for good measure. He then starred in the one-day competition, particularly with the ball, taking 8 wickets at 11.75, to earn his spot in Sri Lanka's Super Four Provincial Tournament for Dambulla District.

After a solitary season with Bloomfield, he moved to his current club, Moors, where he continued to dominate in 2018/19, hitting 612 runs at 43.71 and taking 30 wickets at 26.50.

In the opening round of Sri Lankan's Major League first-class tournament in 2019/20, Mendis broke all sorts of records by striking a breathtaking triple century. His 270-ball undefeated 300 was the 7th fastest triple in first-class cricket and only the second Sri Lankan right-hander, after the great Mahela Jayawardene, to score 300.

Whilst Mendis is predominantly a top-order batsman, he is also an accomplished off-spinner, who evidenced his all-round skills, by winning both the “Best Bowler” and “Best All-Rounder” awards at the Dialog Cricket Awards, for his exploits in the 2016/17 Under-23 (Division 1 T20) season.

Mendis topped the wicket charts, taking 15 wickets at 6.93, with best bowling figures of 6-21 and an economy rate of 5.47 per over. With the bat, he finished second to CricX star Lahiru Udara on the run charts, hitting 288 runs, all with an average of 144 and strike rate of 163.63. Mendis struck 4 fifties in his 5 innings, including a highest score of 74*.

Mendis really is one of Sri Lanka’s brightest all-rounder talents who played 5 matches for Tudhoe in Durham in 2019, before returning to Sri Lanka for national duties. He represented the Emerging Players and the Board President's XI in July and August. Mendis looks set for a bright future in the game, having impressed heavily to date.

The talented all-rounder, who continues to impress during the current domestic season, is now eager to return to the UK for a full stint in 2020.
