Rokhan Barakzai is an experienced left-arm spinner whose exploits at domestic level culminated with 4 international outings for Afghanistan in 2015.
The tweaker impressed during their UAE Associate matches in Abu Dhabi (Nov/Dec 2015) taking wickets in each of his 3 T20 matches against Hong Kong (2-32) and Oman (2-22, 2-21). He then backed up with figures of 2-45 (10) including the notable scalps of Richmond Mutumbami and Elton Chigumbura during his solitary ODI match against Zimbabwe (Alokozay Cup).
It's somewhat surprising Barakzai hasn't featured for the national side since given his success and subsequent performance at domestic level.
Barakzai boasts impressive numbers in Afghanistani domestic cricket to date, with 51 wickets at 20.11 in 11 first-class matches. However, it was his exploits before Afghanistan became a Test-playing nation (and their Premier State competition was granted first-class status) that prompted international selection.
Playing for Mis Ainak Knights, he starred during the Shpageeza T20 Tournament in 2014 - topping the wicket charts with 12 wickets at 13.41.
In red-ball cricket, Afghanistan's Regional 4-Day Tournament, Barakzai continued to dominate, helping his Mis Ainak Region to the title, taking man-of-the-match winning figures of 6-34 (16.1) and 4.10 (11) in the final against Speen Ghar Region. He finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 25 wickets at 11.48.
The following season, he produced the goods again, this time 21 wickets at 12.95 and a further 4 wickets in his sides victorious campaign.
In 2016/17, he continued his imperious form during the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament, taking 34 wickets at 15.35 for Band-e-Amir Region.
In 2017/18, domestic red-ball cricket was awarded first-class status and he excelled again for Band-e-Amir with 15 wickets at 20 in the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament, before his move to Boost Region for the Alokozay Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day competition where he captured a further 20 wickets at 19.60.
The talented tweaker is now eager to secure his maiden UK opportunity in 2023.
(** Needs to play 2 more FC matches to qualify for an ISP in 2023)
