Sahan Kosala is yet another exciting batting prospect coming through the Sri Lankan domestic ranks.
The young batter, who doubles as a gifted keeper, currently plays for Kandy Customs Cricket Club, with whom he joined from Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club this summer (2023/24).
Following a glittering schoolboy career (De Mazinod College, Kandana), Kosala broke into professional cricket for SL Navy in 2022/23. He impressed, hitting a century (132*) amongst 252 runs at 42 in the Major Clubs Limited Overs tournament (List A), before 471 runs at 24.78 with 2 half centuries during his maiden Major League (FC) tournament.
He was subsequently recruited by Kandy Customs for the current 2023/24 season. It’s fair to say, he made quite the impression on debut, striking his maiden first-class century (135) against a strong spin-laded Panadura attack that featured recent Sri Lanka debutant, Nimesh Vimukthi. He then backed up with scores of 51, and 22, against Negombo (Sept 2023).
As it stands, Kosala averages in the 30s in both first-class and List A – no mean feat in Sri Lankan domestic cricket. It appears like the youngster has a bright future and in order to continue his development, he is eager to experience a UK club summer in 2024.
