Siphamandla (“Sipho”) Mavanda is a hugely talented batter playing for Free State in South African domestic cricket.

He broke into senior provincial cricket in 2018 following his exploits at club, age group provincial, and University level.

An accomplished right-handed batter who bowls useful off-spin, Sipho’s cricketing career started in the township of Langa, with whom he played for since the age of 10.

Following in the footsteps of Langa alumni including the likes of Thami Tsolekile, and Protea’s skipper Temba Bavuma, Sipho went on to represent Western Province through the age groups to include the prestigious Coke Week.

He received a full University scholarship to the University of Free State where he would go on to represent for 5-years, playing alongside the likes of Sean Whitehead (SWD) and fellow CricX star Beyers Swanepoel (Northern Cape).

Courtesy of his exploits for UFS, he was picked for the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Franchise Academy and earned a Knights Academy (Free State) contract. He represented the Academy for 3-years, skippering the side in the latter years, and ultimately earned senior honours in 2018.

Sipho remains quite the prospect, who now he has completed his studies is seeking opportunities abroad for the 2022 season. Someone that comes not only recommended as a cricketer, but an academic and cracking bloke to boot.
