Ojay Shields is a West Indies Test fast bowler whose rise to international cricket is one of the most remarkable stories of perseverance in modern Caribbean sport.
Hailing from Manchester, Jamaica, Shields overcame early rejections at youth trial level and spent several years working as a high school Physical Education teacher at Enid Bennett High School. Refusing to abandon his athletic ambitions, he rebuilt his physical conditioning to transform from a light swing bowler into a genuine opening quick capable of generating steep bounce, sharp seam movement, and impressive pace.
After making his First-Class debut for the Jamaica Scorpions in 2023, he nearly retired from the professional game at age 29, only to receive a life changing call up from West Indies head coach Daren Sammy. He subsequently earned his international Test debut against New Zealand at Christchurch in December 2025.
Known for his tireless work ethic, genuine pace, physical fitness, and disciplined new ball skill set, Shields combines elite top tier bowling experience with high performance maturity and exceptional professional leadership.
He is keen to explore opportunities overseas and is considering a stint in UK club cricket to continue to sharpen his skills. He would be quite the signing for any club seeking a genuine quick bowler who will have batters hopping around next summer.
