Consett Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of Indian all-rounder, Azim Kazi, for their 2021 NTSCL campaign.

A genuine all-rounder

Kazi is a genuine all-rounder who finally broke into the Maharashtra Ranji Trophy squad this summer, after years of toil (and dominance) in club cricket.

A destructive batter and slow left-arm spinner, Kazi excelled for the State Association’s Under-19 side (2012/13) but had to wait till 6-years before a full Maharashtra senior birth.

This came during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) in 2018/19, when over 10 matches, he averaged 44 and 24.66, with bat and ball, respectively. Since then, Kazi has become a Maharashtra regular across the three formats.

Domestic success

In October 2019, Kazi impressed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A) hitting 127 runs at 25.40 alongside his 13 wickets at 17, with best figures of 5-46. A month later, he averaged 41.60 and 32.25 in the T20 competition.

In December 2019, Kazi made his Ranji Trophy debut (against Haryana) and it didn’t take long to make an impression. In his second match (against Jharkhand), Kazi strode to the crease at number 6, with Maharashtra reeling at 66-4. He went on to produce a brilliant 140 from 349 balls which ultimately paved the way to an 8-wicket victory.

He has been a regular contributor since and, after 5 first-class games, has 272 runs at 27.20 alongside 4 wickets at 26. He looks set for a long and very bright future for the State.

Kazi is quite the cricketer, who plays alongside the likes of CricX and Maharashtra stars Ankit Bawne, Vishant More, Ashay Palkar, Anupam Sanklecha, Nikit Dhumal, and Samad Fallah.

Kazi signs with Consett

He has recently signed with Consett for their 2021 Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League campaign, where he hopes to impress.

Speaking about the signing, Consett Chairman Ian Cox stated the following:

The club is delighted to be able to welcome a player of Azim’s quality for his first stint in the UK. We can’t wait to see him performing with both bat and ball, with his left arm spin a huge asset filling a void in the team which will undoubtably make a strong team even stronger. We are thrilled to have been able to get this deal done after such a challenging time in 2020 and know that it will give the whole club a lift now that we have such exciting news for 2021, next April can’t come soon enough!
