Karunarathne will return to the Cornwall Cricket League for a third stint in 2020, having recently re-signed with the Truro-based club. The all-rounder has scored 1,323 runs at 34.82 and taken 67 wickets at 18.61 over the past two years.

Karunaratne is a proven all-rounder who has played the past two first-class seasons for Negambo in Sri Lankan domestic cricket (Tier B), following a 7-year hiatus whilst playing club cricket in Australia. He has impressed since his return, particularly during the 2017/18 season hitting 383 runs at 40.33 alongside 14 wickets at 25.71.

Before embarking on 8 seasons in Australia, Karunaratne played provincial cricket in Sri Lanka between 2007 and 2011, playing 15 first-class and 14 List-A matches for Saracens Sports Club (2007/08), Chilaw Marians (2009/10) and Seeduwa Raddoluwa (2010/11). During this period, he scored 461 runs at 19.21 and took 41 wickets at 26.78 (18 wickets at 18.05 in List-A).

Following a season playing for Bundoora Cricket Club in 2008/09, he spent the following seven seasons in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association for Aberfeldie, predominantly as their Player/Coach.

Karunaratne has been, without doubt, one of the best overseas players in the VTCA. He has been Aberfeldie’s “Champion Player” in all bar one of his seven seasons with them. In 2014/15, courtesy of his 536 runs at 33.50 and 37 wickets at 13, he was named VTCA’s “Champion Player”.

During his time with Aberfeldie, he has clocked up 2,597 runs at 27.05 with 3 centuries and highest score of 167. He has taken 205 wickets at 14.07 with his off-spin, to include a handful of 5-wicket hauls and best bowling figures of 6-16.

Grampound Road is excited with the signing and looking forward to welcoming back their Sri Lankan legend next summer.
