Hay Park is delighted to announce the signing of former Leicestershire, now Derbyshire 2nd XI all-rounder Harry Funnell for their 2022/23 Bunbury campaign.

Funnell is a talented seam bowling all-rounder who progressed through the Leicestershire Academy (2017-19), made his List A debut against India A (2018), and has played 2nd XI cricket for both the Foxes (2017-19) and more recently Derbyshire (2022).

A right-arm seamer and hard-hitting middle-order batter, such was Funnell’s potential he was fast-tracked to play for Leicestershire against India A in June 2018. It’s fair to say, the Foxes were taken to the cleaners, as the Indians rattled up 458-4 in their first innings with centuries from Prithvi Shaw (132), Mayank Agarwal (151), and a quickfire 86 (54-balls) from Shubham Gill. Funnell, though, did manage to bag the big wicket of skipper Shreyas Iyer.

Following another year with the Academy, then COVID, Funnell would move to trial with Derbyshire in 2022, playing a 2nd XI Championship game against Yorkshire (July 2022). He impressed bagging the wicket of Yorkshire skipper Harry Duke in both innings with figures of 1-29 (7), and 2-63 (17), alongside quick runs (14, and 20), from the lower order.

Alongside his representative matches, Funnell has spent the past three seasons (2020-22) playing in the Leicestershire and Rutland Premier League for Rothley Park. In his 66 matches (at the point of writing – 01/09/22), he has scored 1,289 runs at 26.85 and taken 91 wickets at 23.49. His highlight, to date, was undoubtedly his rapid 61-ball 100 against Uppingham Town in the ECB Premier Competition this summer.

The County 2nd XI all-rounder is clearly a prospect for the future who is set to continue his development down under this winter having signed with Hay Park for their 2022/23 Bunbury and Districts Association campaign.
