Hoylandswaine is delighted to announce the re-signing of Waqas Maqsood for their 2022 Drakes Huddersfield League campaign.
Recent national selection
Maqsood is an experienced left-arm swing bowler who was rewarded with a national call-up, following years of toil, in November 2018.
The quick produced figures of 2-21 on debut, following his wicket-taking exploits for the ‘A’ side in Dubai against the Australians (2-66 in their first-class match) and New Zealand A (figures of 2-7, 1-20, and 2-17 in their 3 T20s). Thereafter, he continued to excel, taking figures of 4-34, 2-46, and 5-32 in three List A matches against England Lions.
Domestic star
A late bloomer, Maqsood was rewarded with national selection after topping the Pakistan Cup One-Day wicket charts (14 wickets at 15.07) in 2018. He has enjoyed success with the white ball, but likewise the red, in Pakistan’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, since his debut in 2011/12. He has taken 281 wickets at 24.14 with 11 five-wicket hauls and best bowling figures of 9-32. No mug with the bat, he averages 16.20 in List A cricket and boasts a highest first-class score of 62.
Maqsood has been a consistent performer in the QeA Trophy over the years, with best season tallies coming in 2012/13 (25 wickets at 19.16), 2014/15 (50 wickets at 18.78), 2015/16 (36 wickets at 20.55), 2016/17 (32 wickets at 23.12), 2017/18 (33 wickets at 17.06), 2018/19 (11 wickets at 28.27), and 2020/21 (41 wickets at 21.78).
Who also shines abroad…
The star quick has also enjoyed success in UK league cricket, dominating for teams including East Bierley (Bradford League – 2013), Darfield (South Yorkshire League – 2016), Delph & Dobcross (Drakes Huddersfield League – 2018), and Hoylandswaine (Drakes Huddersfield League – 2019).
‘Swaine return in 2022
Given his success in 2019, which included League and Cup titles, not to mention 84 wickets at 11.73 and 350 runs at 23.33 to take out the “Overseas Player of the Year” award, Hoylandswaine re-signed Maqsood for another stint in 2020. Due to COVID, travel wasn’t permitted, but the club has decided to re-sign their Pakistani ace for their 2022 campaign.
