Lutterworth is delighted to announce the return of South African run machine Wesley Marshall for their 2022 Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League campaign.
A domestic run machine
Marshall is a prodigious talent playing for North West, following stints with the with Easterns and the Lions Franchise.
Following several run-filled seasons for Easterns in the CSA Provincial 3-Day Cup, the right-handed opening batter was finally rewarded with Franchise selection in October 2019. He made an immediate impression for the Titans, scoring a debut century (109) against the Cape Cobras.
Marshall hasn’t looked back, cementing his spot with a further 3 half-centuries to conclude the 2019/20 Four Day Franchise Series with 413 runs at 41.30.
Exceptional numbers
It was just reward for Marshall, who had enjoyed prolific returns for Easterns over the years. In 52 first-class matches for Easterns, he has racked up 3,460 runs at 39.31 with 5 centuries. His numbers in white-ball cricket are equally impressive with 1,228 runs at 35.08 (List A), and 673 runs at 30.59 (T20).
His form for Easterns during the CSA Provincial T20 Cup (269 runs at 53.80 with a S/R of 185.51), not to mention his maiden first-class double century (201*), culminated with Mzansi Super League selection towards the end of 2019. Marshall opened the batter alongside former England star Alex Hales for Durban Heat, in a side that also featured Maharaj, Miller, Abbott, and Phehlukwayo, to name but a few.
Marshall really has been a stand-out domestic player over the years who justified his Franchise inclusion. Season red-ball averages of 41.56 (2016/17), 39.23 (2017/18), 49.81 (2018/19), and 49.11 (2019/20) lay testament to that.
And stats replicated abroad…
The Titans star has also been a revelation abroad during five magnificent, run-filled seasons for Trowbridge (2014), Cannock (2015), Cleethorpes (2016), Lutterworth (2018), and Kendal (2019). During this period, he has scored 4,468 runs at 49.64 and taken 148 wickets at 18.14 with his off-spin in all league and cup cricket.
Lutterworth return for Wes
Having spent the winter away from the game due to COVID, Marshall is now set to return to Lutterworth for a second Leicestershire and Rutland League stint in 2022.
