CricX are delighted to announce Maffra Cricket Club’s signing of twins Chris Lawrence & Jonny Lawrence for their upcoming Sale-Maffra Cricket Association campaign.

Firstly, Chris is an attacking left-handed opening batsman from Nottingham, England.

Currently representing Cuckney Cricket Club in the Nottinghamshire Premier League, the youngster has also represented Derbyshire Academy and 2nd XI on numerous occasions. Before joining Cuckney at the start of the current 2023 campaign, Chris had perviously played all his junior cricket for Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Club.

The 2021 season was a breakthrough batting year for Chris as he scored runs in all formats. The prospect churned out 459 runs in 15 games for the Derbyshire academy, including six half-centuries and boasting an average of 30.60. In club cricket, he scored over 800 runs for Gedling’s 1st XI, averaging over 40.

In 2022, the left-handed backed up the previous season racking up 561 senior runs, which included a best of 83. Able to keep wicket regularly, the former Derbyshire 2nd XI player can also bowl left-arm off-spin and picked up 5 wickets in 2022 from his 52 overs.

Professionally, Chris is part of the Trent Bridge ground staff at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and currently helps with the preparation of first-class and international wickets.

 

Secondly, Jonny is a talented young bowling all-rounder from Nottingham, England.

Jonny is a highly sought after prospect who plays for Gedling and Sherwood Cricket Club in the Nottinghamshire Premier League. Other notable accomplishments in Cricket include representing both Derbyshire County Cricket Club 2nd XI and their Academy.

In 2021, representing Derbyshire, the right-arm leg-spinner played 20 games for the County taking 23 wickets and returning best figures of 5-44 against Worcestershire. The 20-year-old also had his break through senior season in 2021, claiming 45 wickets for Gedling’s 1st XI at an average of 18.84.

In 2022, the former Derbyshire pathway man continued where he left off. Again claiming the clubs senior bowling prize, Jonny picked up 25 wickets with his attacking leg-spin. Also a reliable middle-order batter, the organised right-hander racked up 470 runs averaging 20, which also included a career best 91.

The brothers will join up with the SMCA side’s squad at the end of their English season in time for the 2023/24 Campaign. The whole team at CricX would like to wish Chris, Jonny and everyone at Maffra CC the best of luck for the upcoming summer.
