Mayfield is pleased to announce the re-signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder Nawodya Wijayakumara for their 2023 Sussex League campaign.
Wijayakumara is an exciting young all-rounder playing for Sebastianites Cricket And Athletic Club in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.
A former Sri Lankan Under-19 player, he broke into first-class in 2019/20 and impressed, hitting 2 half-centuries amongst 234 runs at 29.25 in his maiden season.
Last summer, due to the absence of red-ball cricket, he played white ball for Ace Capital, albeit only a handful of matches, before returning to Sebastianites this summer (2022).
An explosive batter who bowls decent seam-up, Wijayakumara is a St. Anthony’s College old boy, who excelled as a junior. He was destined for professional cricket, following a glittering school and provincial age-group career. Now involved with Sebastianites Cricket And Athletic Club, he is looking to build on his success and push for higher honours in future.
In a view of his development, the all-rounder enjoyed a strong maiden stint with Mayfield in the Sussex League last summer. He performed exceptionally well with both bat, and ball, acting as the club’s 2nd XI professional. He scored 713 runs at 44.56 and took 39 wickets at 14.33 to conclude an excellent maiden season.
Given his success, Mayfield was swift to re-sign their Sri Lankan young gun for a second stint in 2023.
