CricX are excited to announce Papamoa Cricket Club’s signing of Matthew Rees for the 2023/24 Season.
Rees is a talented young seamer from Yorkshire, England.
The right-arm bowler is a product of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club pathway and represented the ‘White Rose’ at U19 level. Now playing his club cricket for Castleford in the ECB Yorkshire Premier League – North Division, Matt has become one of the competitions leading performers over recent years.
Rees is an aggressive opening bowler who looks to take early wickets consistently with his ability to swing the ball at good pace. The ‘Yorkies’ talent had his breakthrough season in 2021. Matt took 37 wickets at an average of 18.49, in a season that saw his side win the ECB Yorkshire Premier League as well as the Yorkshire Cup at Headingley Stadium.
In 2022, the 24-year-old backed up his previous campaign with another stellar season. Matt picked up 42 wickets at an average of 21.62 including best figures of 5/45. At the conclusion of the 2022 season, Rees travelled to Australia to play Premier Cricket for Geelong (Victoria) enjoying a successful season in what was his first stint down under.
Already racking up the wickets in 2023, Matt has claimed 23 ‘poles’ from just 110 overs this summer (05/06/2023). The talented bowler looks set to pick up a career best wicket haul come the end of the season.
We wish Matthew and everyone at Papamoa Cricket Club the best of luck for their 2023/24 Campaign.
