Due to the COVID pandemic and associated challenges with South African travel to the UK, Ashby Hastings has decided to switch pros.

Outgoing South African, Malwande Zamo, has been replaced by accomplished Sri Lankan all-rounder, Chathuranga Kumara, for their upcoming Leicestershire League campaign.

Top-flight domestic all-rounder

Kumara genuine pace bowling all-rounder playing top-tier domestic cricket in Sri Lanka.

He represents Chilaw Marians, alongside the likes of fellow CricX stars Thikshila de Silva and Pulina Tharanga.

He joined Chilaw in 2018/19, following successful stints with rival clubs Colts (2011/12-12/13), and Colombo (2013/14-17/18).

To date, during his decade on the domestic circuit, Kumara has scored nearly 2,000 runs and taken over 100 wickets.

A schoolboy prodigy

A schoolboy prodigy, the all-rounder starred for St Joseph’s College, and was a key member of the Sri Lankan Under-19 (2011) and Under-23 (2013) sides.

He broke into professional cricket and has enjoyed an illustrious career, boasting batting and bowling averages in the mid-20s, respectively.

Dominated South Notts cricket…

The talented all-rounder also excelled during his maiden season abroad, when playing club cricket for Balderton in the South Notts Cricket League in 2019.

In 17 matches, Kumara struck a century (123*) and 3 fifties amongst 515 runs at 73.57, alongside 27 wickets at 21.63 with two 5-wicket hauls.

And wants to do likewise in Leicestershire this summer…

Given his success, home and abroad, the proven Sri Lankan pro has been snapped up for another UK stint in 2021 having recently signed with Ashby Hastings for their Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League campaign.
