Sandal has been forced to secure a replacement, following Daniel Smith‘s National Academy inclusion. However, they’ve landed on their feet with new signing Kasun Madushanka.

The right-arm seamer boasts an impressive domestic record, with over 280 wickets to include 196 at 30.04 in 79 first-class games.

Whilst known for his skills with the ball, he has shown glimpses of his batting ability with 2 first-class half-centuries and a highest score of 78.

A former Sri Lankan Under-19 star, Madushanka has represented the Sri Lankan Emerging Players, Under-23s, Under-25s, and various Board XI’s over the years. In October 2016, he was picked for Sri Lanka’s tour of Zimbabwe but didn’t feature. Nevertheless, he’s been in the mix since, including an “A” match against the touring South Africans in July 2018.

Madushanka is a highly respected player in Sri Lankan circles who has also enjoyed three fantastic seasons in UK league cricket.

In 2017, he excelled during his maiden stint with Lancaster in the strong Northern ECB Premier League (47 wickets at 15.02 and 349 runs at 19.39), before helping Skelmanthorpe to the Drakes Huddersfield League (Championship Division) title in 2021 (457 runs at 45.70 and 55 wickets at 12.93).

Last summer, the Sri Lankan star enjoyed yet another strong season abroad, this time for Cleator in the Cumbria Premier League (36 wickets at 15.78).

Recommended by various coaches, including former Sri Lankan High-Performance Coach Simon Willis, Madushanka is set to return having signed with Sandal for their 2023 Bradford League campaign.
