Saltburn has announced its return to the ECB Premier Division with the signing of Sri Lankan star Sachin Jayawardena for its 2020 campaign.

The Marske Mill Lane outfit topped Division 1 of the North Yorkshire and South Durham League last summer and hope the signing of Jayawardena will cement their Premier status next season.

Overseas Stats

Jayawardena struck 751 runs at 35.76 and took 39 wickets at 22.28 in the Drakes Huddersfield League for Barkisland in 2019, following his barnstorming 2018/19 domestic season.

Domestic Numbers

Playing for Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, Jayawardena finished the season as the second-leading run-scorer on the Provincial (Tier B) run charts (661 runs at 60.09), narrowly behind fellow CricX star Damith Perera. He struck 3 first-class centuries, namely 109* (132 balls) against Panadura, 116 (167 balls) against Sri Lanka Air Force and 165 (331 balls) against Police Sports Club, respectively.

Sachin finished second in Sri Lanka’s first-class (Tier B) run charts in 2018/19.

Eager to impress

The former Sri Lanka Under-19 squad member is eager to impress for his new side in 2020.

Speaking about the signing, Jayawardena stated:

Just want to thank CricX for this opportunity and I cannot wait to return to the UK and play for Saltburn CC, excited“.

Likewise, Saltburn skipper, Ben Ainsley commented:

Everyone involved with Saltburn is extremely pleased to have Sachin on board for the 2020 season and we hope Sachin can help bring success to the club in what we hope can be an excellent season for the club“.
