Sessay has pulled off a coup with the signing of Afghanistan Test batter Nasir Jamal for their 2022 Yorkshire Premier League North campaign.
An international talent
Jamal is a high-class Afghani international batter who boasts impressive numbers for his country. In his 16 ODI’s between 2014 and 2018, he scored 352 runs at 27.07, and in his 2 Test matches boasts the highest score of 55*, scored in Afghanistan’s most recent Test match against Zimbabwe (March 2021).
Jamal’s journey began with the Under-19s – representing his country at two ICC World Cups, one of which he captained. He made his full ODI debut in the drawn series against Zimbabwe in July 2014. Despite useful performances for Afghanistan, he hasn’t been a regular since.
Domestic run machine
Nevertheless, two prolific Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day Tournaments (2018 – 301 runs at 50.16, and 2019 – 516 runs at 64.50), and success whilst skippering Bangladesh A (July 2019), paved the way to an international return, making his Test debut against the West Indies in November 2019. He would wait for another 15 months before his second outing against Zimbabwe (March 2021) where he notched up his maiden Test half-century (55*).
Jamal is not only a top batter but a useful off-spinner who has been a regular bowler in domestic cricket in recent years, who is now pressing for regular international inclusion.
Jamal signs for Sessay
In order to continue his development, Jamal is set to embark on his maiden UK stint in 2022 having recently signed with Sessay for their Yorkshire Premier League North campaign.
