Tonge is delighted to announce the re-signing of Sri Lankan all-rounder Hashan Dumindu for their 2023 Bolton League campaign.

Dumindu is a high-class professional playing for the star-studded Colts Cricket Club in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.

He moved from Saracens, with whom he skippered, this summer and currently plays alongside international stars including Angelo Mathews, Akila Dananjaya, Dunith Wellalage, and fellow CricX clients Sangeeth Cooray, Priyamal Perera, and Jehan Daniel.

He has been a stand-out performer at domestic level, since his debut in January 2015, scoring almost 6,000 runs across all forms of cricket, with 11 centuries and first-class and List A averages of 35.35 and 32.42 respectively.

Dumindu hit the headlines in Sri Lanka, after scoring his sides only century, at the 2014 ICC Under-19 World Cup. He enjoyed a prolific debut season for Colombo Cricket Club in 2014/15, hitting 645 runs at 35.83, including his maiden first-class century (150*). The following season pushed his name onto the national radar, courtesy of 560 runs at 50.90 with a further two centuries in first-class, alongside an average of 49.25 in one-day cricket. He was subsequently named in the Sri Lankan Emerging Players squad, then Board President’s XI in 2016/17 (and hit another 532 first-class runs at 33.25).

Like many “young guns”, he suffered his first dip in form in 2017/18, hitting 370 runs at 23.12 for Colts, however, this tally did include his career-best 168*. He also struck his maiden List-A century (101), too, ending with a one-day tournament average of 35.25. Nevertheless, he put things right in 2018/19 with a further 526 runs at 30.94 and 210 runs at 42 in first-class and List A, respectively.

Dumindu moved to Saracens to skipper the side in 2020/21. Due to COVID, there was no first-class cricket, but he did average 29.66 and 28.83 in List A, and T20 cricket, respectively. In February 2022, red ball cricket resumed and Dumindu excelled, hitting 377 runs at 53.85 in the National Super Provincial 4-Day Tournament for Galle District.

This summer, he is enjoying arguably his strongest season to date. At the point of writing (13/10/22), he has scored 2 centuries, and 3 fifties amongst 633 runs at 57.54.

Over the past three full UK seasons, Dumindu has also enjoyed successful stints with Barnard Castle (North Yorkshire and South Durham League), and Tonge (Bolton League).

In his opening two seasons in the NYSD (2018-19), playing in the ECB Premier Division, he racked up 1,617 runs at 37.60 in league and cup cricket. On his return to the UK in 2021 he excelled in the Bolton League. He was the stand-out player hitting 1,176 runs at 47.04 alongside a chart-topping 66 wickets at 11.50 with his off-spin.

After a year’s hiatus, Dumindu is set to return to Northern shores in 2023 having re-signed with Tonge for a second Bolton League stint next summer.
