Arafat Sunny has been one of Bangladesh’s most prolific domestic spinners over the past two decades. Making his first-class debut at just 15, he has played nearly 450 domestic matches and featured in 26 internationals during his prime between 2013 and 2016.
Sunny’s domestic brilliance, including 50 wickets at 20.35 in the 2011/12 season, earned him T20 and ODI debuts in 2014. He impressed with career-best ODI figures of 4-29 against Zimbabwe and was part of Bangladesh’s squad for the 2016 ICC World T20 before being suspended for an illegal bowling action. After remodelling his action, he bounced back with a standout 2018/19 domestic season, taking 31 first-class wickets and leading performances in the BPL and National Cricket League.
Though a national recall has yet to come, Sunny remains a vital player for Rangpur Rangers, Dhaka Metropolis, Abahani Ltd, and Chittagong Kings (2025). With his international career likely behind him, he is now seeking franchise opportunities abroad and comes highly recommended as a skilled and experienced spinner.
