Conor McInerney is an accomplished batting all-rounder on contract with the South Australian Redbacks. A gritty opening batter and competent left-arm spinner, McInerney has played 15 matches for the Redbacks (14 first-class, 1 List A) since his debut in March 2018.
To date, he has 3 fifties in Sheffield Shield cricket (51 v Western Australia, 63 v Victoria and another 51 v Western Australia) in a side flooded with Big Bash and International players.
Unfortunately, McInerney was out of cricket for most of the 2019/20 summer, due to a broken arm sustained pre-season, followed by a broken hand during a Futures League match on his return to cricket. Nevertheless, the talented South Australian returned to the fold early New Year to play in the 2nd XI State T20 tournament in January. He played a couple of Cricket Australia 2nd XI Competition matches thereafter, including striking 108 and 142* against ACT in March.
McInerney earned his State contract on the back of impressive performances for Woodville District in the SACA Premier Grade Competition. After making his 1st Grade debut during the 2012/13 season, he has clocked up 4,569 runs at 43.93 to include 9 hundreds and 26 fifties. His run tally pits him as the 13th leading run-scorer in SACA Premier Cricket (1st Grade) history, since My Cricket stats began.
He forced his way into State reckoning during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, racking up 696 runs at 53.54, and 744 runs at 57.23 to finish 2nd and 4th on the 1st Grade run charts, respectively.
A Woodville legend, McInerney has now clocked up over 8,500 runs for the club. He boasts 15 hundreds – 11 in the top flight since the 2016/17 season (103 v Glenelg, 108* v Sturt (x2), 113 v Southern District, 116* v Sturt, 117 v Glenelg, 125 v Adelaide, 125 v Adelaide, 130* v Sturt, 142 v Southern District, 150 v Northern Districts).
With the ball, his left-arm spin has accounted for 76 wickets at 29.70, albeit opportunities with the ball have been limited due to a strong Woodville spin attack.
The talented all-rounder is quite the player who is keen on a return to the UK (** subject to playing more FC cricket) or Europe (Ireland or Holland) next summer. He has previously spent three successive seasons in the UK playing for clubs including Liversedge (2012), Marlow (2013), and Rawdon (2014), where he has enjoyed tremendous success.
A high-class performer, McInerney will travel to the UK or Europe with his British partner and ideally wants to play alongside (and live) with his team-mate, Harry Nielsen.
** McInerney requires 3 further FC matches to qualify for an ISP visa.
