In his first outing as Sri Lanka Navy’s skipper, Auwardt impressed with his career-best. He then backed up with first-innings figures of 4-21 against Kandy to take his first-class wicket tally to within striking distance of 50 wickets – currently 48 with an average of 25.22.

The tweaker, who captains fellow CricX stars including Tharushan Iddamalgoda, Tharusha Fernando, and Savindu Peiris, is looking to build on his successful start to the summer.

Auwardt’s domestic journey started with Police Sports Club back in 2011/12, but after a solitary season at first-class level, he left the club and joined Navy SC in 2016/17. He excelled, picking up 15 wickets at 23, but unfortunately, a bike accident hampered the following season, before an excellent return in 2018/19 (10 wickets at 15.40).

After the opening 2 rounds of the current season, Auwardt has 12 wickets and is keen to bag plenty more over the next few months, before embarking on a UK club for his maiden stint in 2020.
