Kieran Powell is an accomplished batter with 90 international matches for the West Indies to his name.
An opening bat of serious pedigree, the Nevisian starred for the Windies at the 2008 Under-19 World Cup, and made his Leeward Islands debut during the same year.
He would make his Windies ODI debut in 2009, and Test debut just under two years later. Powell’s maiden Test century came in July 2012 against New Zealand, and a year later he become the youngest player to register Test centuries in both innings (against Bangladesh).
In June 2014, Powell was dropped from the Test side, and following a self-imposed break from the game, pursued a US Major League Baseball contract. This switch did not come to fruition and in March 2017 Powell was recalled to the Test team.
Over the next 4 years, Powell would become a regular feature in the Windies top order but after registering only 3 fifties in 5 Test series, he was dropped after his final game against Pakistan in August 2021.
Powell has subsequently returned to the domestic fold and continues to excel. Powell is on the verge of 8,000 first-class runs with 9 centuries, alongside 3,000 plus List A runs with 5 further tons.
The Windies star is a class act who returned to England last summer and dominated for Ashtead in the Surrey Championship, having previously spent his teenage years attending Millfield School in Somerset, where he opened the batting alongside Craig Kieswetter.
Powell is now considering his options for a return next summer and would be a high profile signing for any club.
