Navin Kavikara has been one of Sri Lankan domestic cricket’s most consistent and dependable left-arm spinners. A proven match-winner, he has taken over 200 first-class wickets at just over 23 apiece, including 14 five-wicket hauls and three ten-wicket match performances, alongside outstanding white-ball records – averaging 20.92 in List A cricket and 22.10 in T20s.
Kavikara made his first-class debut in 2013/14 with Badureliya, following his List A bow for Lankans in 2011/12. After a modest start, he returned to Lankans a few seasons later and made an immediate impact, taking 49 wickets at 19.75 in a single campaign – a breakthrough that cemented his place as one of the country’s premier left-arm spinners. In recent seasons, he has been a key performer for Sri Lanka Navy, regularly leading the attack and delivering in all conditions.
His cricketing journey began at school level, where he earned selection for Sri Lankan Schools and the national Under-19 side in 2007/08. He went on to play two Youth Tests and 14 Youth ODIs, including five matches in the 2008 ICC Under-19 World Cup alongside future internationals such as Angelo Mathews, Kusal Perera, and Lahiru Thirimanne. Among his early career highlights was dismissing Virat Kohli in both innings of a Youth Test against India, as well as claiming the scalps of Saurabh Tiwary, Abhinav Mukund, and Ravindra Jadeja.
A handy lower-order batter, Kavikara has also built an impressive record in the UK across five seasons. His first two years in the Yorkshire Premier League North (2018–19) produced 94 wickets at 19.28 and 619 runs, before moving post-COVID to Great Brickhill in the Home Counties Premier League. There, he has been nothing short of prolific – amassing 1,646 runs at 30.48 and 216 wickets at a miserly 13.54 across all formats from 2022 to 2025.
With a wealth of experience, a proven track record at home and abroad, and the ability to contribute with bat and ball, Kavikara is a genuine asset for any side seeking a high-quality, battle-hardened professional.
Note: Kavikara's eligibility window for UK club cricket (based on 5 FC matches in the last 36 months) remains open until 14 Oct 2025.
