Oliver Damgaard Hald is a Danish cricketer currently making waves in Australian country cricket.
In December 2023, the international all-rounder broke all sorts of records by claiming 5 wickets in successive balls in a Cricket Albury-Wodonga Premier match.
Defending 120, Albury Cricket Club’s overseas pro produced one of the best spells CAW has ever seen, taking figures of 7-12, to bowl reigning Premiers Lavington out for just 30.
His exploits have seen Hald make the CAW side for the NSW Regional T20 finals (Feb 2024), where the great Dane continued to excel, adding to his 34 wickets (at 14.91) and 335 runs (at 25.77) for Albury this summer.
In what is Hald’s second season in Australia, having initially played a brief stint pre COVID (2019/20) for Northern District whilst on the Darren Lehmann Academy, it’s fair to say the Danish international has impressed and he now aspires to progress into professional cricket.
To date, Hald has represented Denmark in 23 T20I’s, and 14 List A matches since his debut in May 2019. He has been a key performer for his country taking 40 wickets to date, with best figures of 3-5 (T20I), and 2-17 (List A). With the bat, the explosive left-hander has scored 291 runs across both formats with highest scores of 24 (T20I), and 37* (List A), respectively.
Following his season down under, the Dane is looking to explore opportunities in the UK/EU view to generating interest to play higher representative cricket.
Over the past two seasons, Hald played his club cricket in Ireland. Last summer, in-particular, he was a stand-out performer for Phoenix in the top tier of the Leinster Cricket League bagging 32 wickets at 14.41 alongside 232 runs at 29 with a century (104).
The great Dane is looking to find a Premier club in England in 2024 and secure County trials / 2nd XI games around his club commitments.
