Salinda Ushan is an accomplished opening batter currently playing first-grade cricket for North Albury in the strong Cricket Albury Wodonga competition in NSW, Australia.
Prior to embarking on his maiden Australian stint, Ushan had forged an impressive domestic career in Sri Lanka’s top-tier (A) first-class competition.
A left-hander of some pedigree, Ushan represented Sri Lanka Under-19s in 11 Test (4) and ODI’s (7), including the ICC World Cup in Bangladesh back in 2016.
He made his first-class debut for Colts Cricket Club in February 2017, before moving to Badureliya (2017/18-19/20), Saracens Sports Club (2020/21), and Moors Sports Club (2021/22).
Ushan was a stand-out performer in first-class cricket for Badureliya, with season tallies of 323 runs at 53.83 (2017/18), 574 runs at 38.26 (2018/19), and 314 runs at 28.54 (2019/20).
His time with Badureliya in red-ball cricket yielded 3 centuries amongst 1,211 runs at 37.84.
The run machine is quite the prospect who has also spent two successful English stints over the past two seasons. In his first season (2021), he enjoyed a productive season scoring 524 runs at 40.31 in the North Yorkshire and South Durham Premier League. He returned in 2022 to play for Salesbury in the Ribblesdale League, but unfortunately, a mid-season injury hampered his success, albeit he still managed 329 runs at 32.90.
The Sri Lankan star then enjoyed a strong season in Australia playing for East Albury Cricket Club in 2022/23. He was set to return this season, but new sports visa rules scuppered this.
Therefore, the talented Sri Lankan is eager to explore opportunities in New Zealand for the 2024/25 season.
