Sean Davey is an exciting seam-bowling all-rounder currently playing for Canterbury in New Zealand’s domestic circuit. A former New Zealand U19 representative, Davey is now into his fifth domestic contract (2024/25) with the Red and Blacks, having made the move south from Northern Districts — a shift that has seen him grow into a key contributor across formats.
With the bat, Davey is a powerful middle-order hitter, with career-best scores of 55 in the Plunket Shield and 43 in the Ford Trophy. While he’s impressed at the professional level, his dominance at lower levels is undeniable — especially during his standout 2016/17 Hawke Cup season, where he piled on 530 runs at 75.71, including five centuries for Bay of Plenty.
With the ball, Davey is a skilful right-arm seamer who has consistently delivered. He boasts impressive career bowling averages of 20.85 (FC) and 19.95 (List A), with standout figures of 7-25 in red-ball cricket and a record-breaking 6-30 on his Ford Trophy debut. His ability to swing games with either discipline makes him one of Canterbury’s most valuable assets moving forward.
Davey has also been a top performer overseas, with successful stints in England (Slaithwaite, 2013), Ireland (Malahide, 2017), the Netherlands (Ajax, 2019), and most recently Northern Ireland (CNI, 2025).
Some of his international highlights include:
624 runs at 48.00 and 45 wickets at 17.76 for Slaithwaite (Huddersfield League)
A match-winning 108 (125)* in the Irish National Cup Final for Malahide
Following a strong 2025 campaign in the NCU Premier Division, particularly with the ball, Davey is now open for a UK return in 2026 — bringing with him elite experience, game-changing all-round ability, and a proven record across conditions.
