Tony Munyonga is an exciting all-rounder who, in September 2019, broke into the Zimbabwean national side, less than 2 years after his domestic debut.

An explosive batter who bowls off-spin, Munyonga was selected for the Twenty20 Tri-Series against Bangladesh, Nepal, and Singapore in September 2019. In the last of these 5 matches, Munyonga finally had the opportunity to contribute and he did just that, striking a 33-ball 44 to help Zimbabwe chase down Singapore's 167 inside 19 overs.

Munyonga was then cast aside, and returned to domestic cricket where he performed, culminating with a return to the national fold in May v Namibia, before ODI games against the Netherlands and Bangladesh (July-Aug 2022). He was then selected for their tour to Australia and the T20 World Cup in October/November 2022.

Rolling back the years, the all-rounder's journey started in November 2017, when he made his first-class debut for the Rising Stars in Zimbabwe's Logan Cup competition. In February 2018, he made his List A debut in Rising Star's victorious Pro50 Championship campaign - Munyonga was named "Player of the Series".

In April 2019, he was named in Zimbabwe's ODI squad for their series against the United Arab Emirates, but he didn't feature. Instead, he headed to the UK where he played for Rockingham Colliery in the strong South Yorkshire Cricket League (Championship Division). He produced excellent returns, striking 734 runs at 43.18 and taking 31 wickets at 18.30.

The all-rounder returned to Rockingham for a second stint in 2021 and once again impressed (594 runs at 28.29 and 33 wickets at 19.88).

After his two-season stint with Rockingham, the Zimbabwean all-rounder has tried to return to the UK in recent seasons, securing clubs in both 2022 and 2023. Unfortunately, on both occasions, the National Board have failed to issue NOC's, thus preventing these opportunities.

However, the Board have issued his NOC for 2024, so Munyonga will wing his way back to the UK next summer having signed with Wickford for their Essex League campaign.
