Aberdeenshire attract NZ U19 star - 23/12/15

Christian Leopard

ABERDEENSHIRE have signed promising young Kiwi Christian Leopard for their Cricket Scotland League campaign next summer.

Leopard (18) is a gifted all-rounder who is part of the Central Stags High Performance training squad and is set to play for New Zealand during the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh early next year.

A top-order batsman and right-arm seamer, he earned selection for the New Zealand following a stand-out National Provincial Under-19 Tournament in December 2015.

He finished second on the tournament wicket charts (13 wickets at 20.38) and was runner-up to Stags all-rounder Josh Clarkson on CD’s run aggregates hitting 174 runs at 29, all with a strike rate of 94.56.

In January 2015, Leopard topped the run charts for Central Districts at the National Under-17 Tournament, with 362 runs at 60.33 including a highest score of 173 against Wellington Invitation. He also took 9 wickets at 20.77 with best bowling figures of 4-31 for good measure.

In October 2015, he featured strongly in 3 pre-season T20’s for the Stags against the Wellington Firebirds. He took figures of 2-37, 4-56 and 0-18 in his three outings, alongside a 20-ball 30* and 19-ball 22* in two of his three innings.

To continue his development following the World Cup in February, he will travel to Scotland to play for Aberdeenshire in the Eastern Premier Division.
