Avebury sign SWD legend Wes Hartslief - 10/12/14

Wessel HartsliefAVEBURY have recruited former South African first-class quick Wessel Hartslief for their 2015 season.

Hartslief (28) is a genuine seam bowling all-rounder who spent six years playing professional cricket for South West Districts (SWD) in South Africa.

Between his first-class debut in October 2006, to his final outing in December 2012, Hartslief played 60 matches across all formats for SWD taking 109 wickets.

In 34 first-class matches, he took 85 wickets at 24.41, which until recently was a SWD record for most first-class wickets.

He has also proven his all-round ability over numerous seasons plying his trade in the UK, most recently in the Devon League.

Over his past two seasons for Plympton, he has scored 961 runs at 36.96 and taken 57 wickets at 13.26. Last summer, he was Division One’s second leading run-scorer, seventh leading wicket-taker and finished third in both run and wicket averages.

He produced two of the Devon League performances of the year – pummelling Chudleigh for a breathtaking 44-ball 113 (12x6s), then taking the outrageous figures of 9-3-10-6 against Barton.

Hartslief is now eager to guide Avebury to another promotion next summer, having won the Wiltshire County Cricket League Division 3 in 2015. With the SWD legend on board, its fair to suggest the club have a cracking chance.
