Babbacombe bring in South African Fryer - 05/12/14

Cameron Fryer BABBACOMBE have signed promising South African all-rounder Cameron Fryer ahead of their Devon League campaign.

Fryer (21) plays for Alberton Cricket Club in the Gauteng Premier League in Johannesburg. He moved to Alberton this season and is playing predominantly in the Presidents League (2nd XI), but has featured in the top flight, alongside first-class players including Brian Barnard, Craig Schlebusch and Ziyaad Desai to name but a few.

Fryer has represented Gauteng at Under-17B and Under-19B level and starred for his school, taking 80 1st XI wickets, winning senior bowling of the year twice (2009, 2010) and earning full colours with a bowling average of 17.54.

At senior club level, he has played at his home club Scaw Metal for much of his short career since the age of 15, with the exclusion of two seasons playing President and Premier League cricket with Jeppe Quondam (2010/11, 2011/12). In 2012/13 he returned to Scaw Metal and was awarded the Sunday 1st XI “bowler” and “player” of the year. The following season, he was the Saturday and Sunday “player of the year”, before moving to Alberton to push for higher honours this season.

Fryer is a short, skiddy but brisk seamer and hard-hitting batsman who is eager to make a big impact for Babbacombe, who will play in the C Division of the Devon Cricket League after gaining promotion last summer.
