Bexhill bag Burma Lads' Brooker - 29/04/16

Aidan Brooker

BEXHILL have signed promising South African quick Aidan Brooker for their Sussex Premier League campaign.

Brooker (20) is an exciting talent who broke into professional cricket in 2014/15 when making his T20 debut for Griqualand West. He has since made his List-A and first-class debuts for Northern Cape in 2015/16, impressing in the latter with figures of 13-5-25-1 against Namibia.

Brooker is quite the prospect. He represented Griqualand West through the age-groups and topped the sides wicket charts (8 wickets at 21.25) at the Coca Cola Khaya Majola Week in December 2013.

Courtesy of his exploits, he earned selection for South Africa Under-19’s tour to England in August 2014, where he continued to impress.

On his Youth ODI debut, he picked up figures of 3-48 (10), including the wickets of Ed Barnard, Joe Clarke (Worcs) and Aneurin Donald (Glamorgan) as England racked up 295.

Since his English tour, he has represented the Knights at Cubs Week in January 2015, picking up best figures of 3-55, 4-38 and 3-26 against the Cobras, Dolphins and Warriors respectively.

He has starred at Premier club level in recent years, topping his Burma Lads CC wicket charts 3-years running. He helped his side win both the Pro20 and 50-over competitions in the DFA Premier League in Kimberley and was ranked inside the top 5 bowlers respectively.

Whilst he has impressed with the ball, he is regarded as a genuine all-rounder in Premier cricket, batting 6-7 for Burma Lads.

During the Cubs week, he showed his undoubted ability with the bat hitting quick fire scores of 43* and 23* against the Dolphins and Warriors, then scores of 14 and 26 on his first-class debut for Northern Cape in January 2016.

Brooker is a high-class prospect, one who seems destined for Franchise honours in future. In a view to continuing his development, he has signed to play in the Sussex Premier League for Bexhill this summer.
