Big Bully heading for the Pennines - 05/01/16

Cephas Zhuwao 1

PENNINE CRICKET LEAGUE club Shaw have signed explosive Zimbabwean batsman Cephas Zhuwao.

Commonly known as "Big Bully" has played white ball cricket for Zimbabwe (1 ODI and 3 T20s) alongside 117 domestic matches, most recently for the Mashonaland Eagles.

Whilst his Zimbabwean isn't particularly flattering, this cannot be said about his UK exploits over the past few years.

Zhuwao lived up to his big hitting reputation during his maiden season back in 2013. He plundered 1,437 runs at 58.92 in all formats for Thames Valley League club Eversley, to include 5 hundreds and 699 runs at 49.93 in the league.

His incredible innings against the Lashings World XI, where he struck 10 towering maximums (many off Saqlain Mustaq) en-route to a 40-ball 80 culminated with selection for Lashings throughout the rest of the summer.

He didn't disappoint, belting some incredible innings for the World XI, including a breath-taking 36-ball 119* that included 14 sixes.

Big Bully returned last summer and, unsurprisingly continued to impress, topping the Devon Cricket League (A Division) run charts, despite arriving late and playing only 15 matches.

Zhuwao struck 779 runs at 59.82, all with a season strike-rate well over 100. He produced some quite spectacular innings throughout the summer, none more so than his record-breaking 159* against Bideford. His 103-ball innings included 12 fours and a quite remarkable 14 sixes, including 9 successive sixes.

Not content with his run spree, Big Bully also finished fifth on the A Division wicket charts with 27 poles at 16.78.

Zhuwao has literally set league cricket alight during his two previous stints, not to mention several explosive innings for Lashings World XI.

The Zimbabwean master-blaster is keen to make a big impression in the inaugural Pennine Cricket League for Shaw in 2016.
