Buxted Park sign St George's Brent Atherton - 23/03/15

Brent AthertonBUXTED PARK have signed Sydney Grade batsman Brent Atherton for their East Sussex League campaign.

Atherton (19) is quite the prospect coming through the New South Wales and St George District ranks. A left-hand batsman, useful off-spinner and dynamic fielder, Atherton plays 2nd Grade for St George in the Sydney Grade Competition and is a current member of the New South Wales Under-19 squad.

Atherton has played 129 matches for St George – a club that can boast the likes of Australian players Josh Hazlewood, Moises Henriques and Trent Copeland. He has represented St George from the juniors through to seniors racking up 3,235 runs at 29.68 and 27 wickets at 24.74.

In recent years, he has played predominantly 2nd Grade, hitting 214 runs at 26.75 and 274 runs at 18.27 during the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons respectively.

He has previously played for the NSW CCC side in the Lord Taveners Carnival, where he was the leading run-scorer culminating with NSW All Schools selection.

Atherton is hoping a run-filled summer in the East Sussex League top flight for Buxted Park will help push him towards first-grade selection in future.
