Champions Barney re-sign Dumindu - 30/10/18

Hashan Dumindu Batting 1

Barnard Castle will see the return of Sri Lankan star Hashan Dumindu for their 2019 NYSD campaign.

Dumindu had a reasonable season for Barney hitting 568 runs at 35.50 in the North Yorkshire and South Durham Premier League. However, he produced the goods when it mattered, top scoring with 86 in his final outing to help the club seal the NYSD title

The talented batsman, who plays for Colts Cricket Club in Sri Lanka's top tier (A) first-class competition, has scored over 3,000 runs across all forms of cricket, with 6 centuries and first-class and List A averages of 33.61 and 35.43 respectively.

Dumindu looks on course of International cricket, having already represented Sri Lanka Under-19s, Emerging Players and the Board President’s XI.

Speaking about the signing, Barney President Stephen Brenkley was delighted to the re-signing:

"Hashan was a superb professional who fitted in wonderfully not only with the team but in the town and was a hugely popular figure. If he did not quite score the weight of runs he or we would have liked he still played some key innings on our way to the North Yorkshire and South Durham League Premier Division title, was electrifying in the field and we are pretty sure that he can take all before him in a second season with us".

"There were a few hiccups in getting him here which seems a long time ago now but CricX remained calm and helpful and it was important to deal with an agency which knew the possible pitfalls and how they might be avoided or overcome".
