CricX v Future Stars - 26/07/18

Portrait - Lahiru Udara

In our third outing this summer, our CricX side raced to victory over the Future Stars Academy on Wednesday.

On yet another scorching day, the CricX lads produced a strong performance against David Alleyne's Academy, played at the picturesque Uxbridge ground in London.

The well-prepared Future Stars, featuring CricX trio Jack Cattrall, Shakeem Clarke and skipper Donovan Pell, won the toss and quite rightly, elected to bat.

Pell looked in great nick and the Stars were flying along at the first drinks break. However, the fall of his wicket, for a composed 68, to the bowling of wicket-keeper come off-spinner, Lahiru Udara sparked a dramatic collapse. The Stars were bowled out inside their alloted 45-overs for 199, with Umeur Lohoya the pick of the other Stars' batsman, scoring 43.

With the ball, the CricX quicks - Lahiru Samarakoon, Akhona Mbanga, Matt Edwards and Ranitha Liyanarachchi - toiled away, but, as they often do, the spinners bagged the majority of the wickets, with 2 apiece for Sanjaya Chathuranga (2-24), Udara (2-27) and Josh Louw (2-24).

In reply, despite the early wickets of the powerful Liyanarachchi (4) and classy Maduranga Zoysa (14), to Cattrall (1-37) and Zimbabwe Under-19 all-rounder Jayden Schadendorf (1-10) respectively, the CricX side's 2nd-wicket partnership put them in a strong position, with the 100 up inside 20 overs. Skipper Liam O'Hare (77) and Daniel Doyle (31) showed their class, before the power of Dillon Smit (16) and Udara (41*) finished the game off in quick time.

A huge thanks to Icon Sports UK for the great looking gear and to Uxbridge Cricket Club  for hosting both Dave's Future Stars and our CricX sides.

For now though, bring on our next fixture on the calendar, as we venture back up to Liverpool for Northern Cricket Club's marquee event on Friday 10th August.
